Aristotle judged rhetoric based on five cannons. He felt a critic could determine whether or not a rhetor used all available means of persuasion he or she had available to them based on examining these five areas.
Invention - The location and creation of ideas and materials for the speech.
Contains both External (created by others) and Artistic (created by you) proofs
Organization - The structure and arrangement of the speech
Style - The Language of the speech
Memory - (the forgotten cannon) mastery of the subject matter , which may include memorizing the content of the speech.
Delivery - management of the voice and gestures in the presentation of the speech
